Born in Berkeley, California, Sonia Calderón grew up in the outer Twin Cities of Minnesota. Self taught, she began painting at the age of 5. Trained at the Art Academy in San Francisco, and Darmstadt Applied Sciences in Hessen, Germany. Calderón’s interests include fashion, design, mysteries of nature and the human experience. Her artistic influences are several German Expressionistic painters of the 20th century, and photographers that play with light and subliminal concepts. Her process exploration with color, depth, patterns, mood and a sense of place . She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area near the ocean.
