ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m a painter and illustrator interested in exploring the gap between in the promise of America and the actual realities of this country. My work takes a critical, if sometimes ironic and humorous tone.  For my current series, BURNING, I probe some of the same themes of my previous work while going in a very different aesthetic direction. Inspired from old snapshots, I explore images culled from America in the 1950s through to the 1970s. I consider all the paintings in the series to be fragments of individual quotidian moments of suburban life that make up a larger narrative, one where disaster lurks just beyond the frame.
