ROSE SELLERY

Examining the fragility of family dynamics, gender roles, complex social issues and the intricacies of our lives, Rose Sellery reinterprets collected slang, derogatory words and worn, thoughtlessly sanctioned expressions to create three-dimensional objects, at times humorous, occasionally disturbing and always questioning.  In addition to her sculptural work, Rose creates wearable art, curates exhibitions, as well as fashion shows and is occasionally know to perform. In her spare time she manages the Cabrillo College Gallery in Aptos, CA.

Inspired by the spoken word, Rose reinterprets collected slang, derogatory words and worn, thoughtlessly sanctioned expressions to create pieces that explore the fragility of family dynamics, gender roles, complex social issues and the intricacies of our lives. She works in the materials essential to the piece; from metal to bone, cigarette butts to rose petals, fabric to photographs, creating humorous, thought provoking and occasionally disturbing three-dimensional objects and wearable art.
